Five Gusties Earn MIAC Football All-Conference

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2024 football awards on Monday and 10 Gusties were recognized. River Wood and Luke Rooker were named All-Conference Offense, while Javier Gratacos, Max Olson, and Carson DeKam were named All-Conference Defense. Honorable Mention went to Jake Breitbach, Caden Kleinschmidt, William Hawkins, Jack Klug, and Owen Forsythe.
 
Wood earns his first All-Conference award after posting the second most rushing yards in the MIAC this season at 840 yards. Wood had 146 carries, averaged 5.8 yards per carry, 84.0 yards per game, and rushed for five touchdowns. Wood was also a threat in the receiving game and on special teams. He added 27 catches for 175 yards and a touchdown, as well as eight kick returns for 142 yards, totaling 1,157 all-purpose yards.
 
Rooker is also a first-time All-MIAC selection after starting all 10 games at left tackle. Rooker blocked for an offense that averaged 137.4 rushing yards and 189.0 passing yards for 326.4 total yards per game.
 
Gratacos earns his third consecutive All-Conference award after starting all 10 games on the defensive line. Gratacos had 30 tackles, including 5.0 tackles for a loss of 11 yards, and 1.5 sacks for seven yards. He also collected two fumble recoveries.
 
Olson is a first-time All-MIAC pick after collecting 38 tackles and starting 10 games. Olson led the team with 9.5 tackles for loss of 56 yards. He was second on the team with 7.5 sacks for 51 yards, while adding a forced fumble.
 
DeKam becomes the 12th player in MIAC history to earn All-Conference honors four times and just the second in Gustavus program history, joining Jordan Stolp (2004-07). DeKam led the league with 98 tackles this season, while adding 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three interceptions, four breakups, three quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles. DeKam finished his collegiate career with 353 tackles, which ranks third in program history.
 
Breitbach earns recognition from the MIAC for the fourth consecutive season after earning All-Conference the past three seasons. Breitbach is honorable mention this year after hauling in 42 catches for 541 yards and a touchdown. Breitbach graduates with program records in career receptions (226) and yards (3,401).
 
Kleinschmidt joins Breitbach as honorable mention after leading the team with 646 receiving yards on 31 catches and seven touchdowns.
 
After earning All-Conference honors in 2022, Hawkins is recognized as honorable mention this season after collecting 50 tackles. He added 4.0 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, three interceptions, led the team with six breakups, and had a fumble recovery.
 
Klug is honorable mention after making 74 tackles this season. Klug added 7.0 tackles for a loss of 14 yards and a half sack. He also had two quarterback hurries.
 
Forsythe received honorable mention after setting the Gustavus program record with a season punting average of 39.0 yards per punt. Forsythe had 50 punts for 1,950 yards with a long of 64 yards. Fourteen of his punts landed inside the 20 and he had a MIAC-leading nine punts over 50 yards.
