Swim & Dive Men in First, Women in Second on Day One of Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn.  – The Gustavus men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened day one of its mid-season meet at Macalester College, competing against teams from the host Scots, St. Olaf, Concordia, and Hamline in the Roger Ahlman Invitational. The Gustavus men are in first after day one with a total of 259 points, while the women are in second with 234.5. 

Friday's results have the Macalester men in second (219), followed by St. Olaf (134), and Hamline (30). The women of Macalester lead with 255 points, followed by the Gusties, St. Olaf (168.5), Concordia (67), and Hamline (six) through event 10. 

For the Gustie men, Peyton Richardson (5th, Crystal Lake, Ill.) collected the only Gustie victory on Friday evening, touching the wall first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.96. A pair of Gustie relays took second, as the 400 medley team of Ben Kell (So., Minneapolis, Minn.), Nyden Hill (Sr., Conway, Ark.), Jacob Robischon (Fy., Sauk Centre, Minn.), and Brendan Collins (Maple Grove, Minn.) finished in 3:30.93. The 800 free relay of Richardson, Logan Cyr (So., Maple Grove, Minn.), Collins, and Kell also took second with a time of 7:03.68.

Matt Lillejord (So., Naples, Fla.) added another second place finish for the Gusties, touching the wall in 17:21.96 in the 1650 freestyle. Logan Braley (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) rounded out the top spots for Gustavus with a 21.89 performance in the 50 freestyle. The Gusties also took fifth through ninth in the 50 free.

For the Gustie women, the 800 freestyle relay team of Geneva Fackler (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.), Stella Anderson Moye (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Sommer Krause (Fy., Farmington, Minn.), and Marit Isaacson (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) claimed Friday's only victory with a 7:51.96 finish. 

In the 400 medley relay, Isaacson, Lindsay Sundby (Jr., Randolph, Minn.), Madison Witte (So., Glencoe, Minn.), and Kateyln Siers (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.) finished third with a time of 4:00.38. Krause added a fourth place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.78, while a pair of Gusties took fifth to conclude Friday's day one events. Teresa Gatti (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) finished the 1650 freestyle in 19:06.26, while Fackler took fifth in the 50 free (24.94).

The Gusties resume action at Riley Pool in St. Paul at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
