SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Gustavus women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season Saturday with another convincing victory, 77-42 over Hamline. The win secured the MIAC regular season championship for the second consecutive season, the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament, and a first round bye. The Gusties finished the regular season 23-2 overall and 19-1 in the MIAC.
A three-pointer by Hamline 1:13 into the game gave the visitors their only lead of the game as the Gusties ended the first quarter on a 11-2 run and never looked back. Gustavus was dominant on both ends of the court in the second quarter, out-scoring the Pipers 23-5 for a 44-16 lead at halftime.
The Gusties put the game out of reach in the third quarter, going up by as much as 40 points and increased their lead to 44 midway through the fourth quarter before Coach
Laurie Kelly cleared her bench to end the game.
The Gusties shot 43.8 percent from the floor, led by
Syd Hauger with 14 points. Hauger added four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a block.
Rachel Kawiecki was next with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Gustavus will enjoy a bye through the MIAC quarterfinals and will host the lowest seed remaining in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.
