BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team continued to add to their dynasty last weekend, winning the program's 26th conference championship and fifth in a row. The MIAC announced the individual awards for the 2023-24 season, and the Gusties won three of the four major honors. Head Coach
Jon Carlson was once again tabbed MIAC Men's Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year, while
Peyton Richardson and
Matt Strom were named Co-Swimmers of the Year.
Logan Cyr was selected as the Rookie of the Year.
Gustavus seniors
Peyton Richardson and
Matt Strom were named Co-Swimmers of the Year on the men's side after tying for the most points in the men's individual events. Richardson won the 100 fly (48.78), 200 fly (1:51.49), and 200 IM (1:50.35), while Strom touched the wall first in the 500 free (4:30.58), 100 back (49.63), and 200 back (1:47.52). Both also swam on the Gusties' victorious 200 medley relay (1:30.24), 400 freestyle relay (3:04.05), and 800 freestyle relay teams (6:45.08). In addition, Richardson swam on the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:23.52) and Strom swam on the champion 200 freestyle relay squad (1:23.28).
The MIAC has had Co-Swimmers of the Year in men's swimming & diving three times in recorded conference history with all occurring in the last five championships; however, this is the first time that two teammates have shared the award. The honor is the first for Richardson and the second for Strom, who also received the award in 2022. This is the fifth straight year that a Gustie has won the award.
First-year
Logan Cyr received Men's Rookie of the Year honors. Cyr swam on a trio of championship relays including the 400 medley (3:23.52), 400 freestyle (3:04.05), and 800 freestyle (6:45.08). He also placed second individually in the 400 IM (4:09.02) and third in the 500 free (4:41.04) and 200 back (1:55.47). He is the first Gustavus swimmer to receive Men's Rookie of the Year honors.
Jon Carlson and Carleton's Andy Clark were selected by their peers as Co-Coaches of the Year for MIAC Men's Swimming & Diving. The award is Carlson's seventh and fifth in a row. Gustavus won the men's team title in 2024, claiming victory by 237 points. The Gustie men won eight individual events and all five relay races, locking down 36 All-Conference honors in the process.

- Jonathan Cordano (100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 400 medley relay)
- Nyden Hill (200 medley relay, 400 medley relay)
- Aiden Shermak (200 free relay)
The Gusties picked up 14 Honorable Mention performances at the conference meet. Honors were awarded to
Brendan Collins (200 free, 500 free), Shermak (200 free, 200 fly),
Teddy Solensky (1650 free), Hill (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke),
Brandon Wilcek (200 breaststroke, 200-IM),
Graham Muench (100 fly), and Cordano (200-IM). Divers
Andrew Jensen (1-meter, 3-meter) and
Ryan Lester (3-meter) each earned MIAC Honorable Mention distinction as well.
The only non-Gustie award went to Eli Grabinski of Saint John's and St. Olaf's Oscar Hanifl, as the two shared the Diver of the Year honor.
