SAINT PETER, Minn. - The Gustavus men's soccer team wrapped up its weekend slate of home games with a 3-1 victory over St. Norbert on Sunday afternoon, improving to 3-0-1 overall.
After controlling the pace of play and maintaining possession for the majority of the first half, the pressure paid off in the 24th minute as
Joe Flory scored his third goal in the past two games. Flory's first shot went off the cross bar, but he gathered the rebound for an easy tap-in goal. The 1-0 advantage stood after the first 45 minutes with the Gusties holding a 9-1 lead in shots.
The pressure and possession continued in favor of the Gusties for the second half. In the 61st minute,
Owen Johnson connected with
Alex Krumenauer for his first goal of the season. The Green Knights ended the shutout in the 70th minute, scoring off a corner kick, but
Jared Hecht regained a two-goal advantage for the Gusties with a point-blank goal with nine minutes remaining.
The Gusties outshot the Green Knights 19-4 and 10-2 on goal as
Egan Bedwell made one save. The game proved to be a contentious affair with five yellow cards and one red card issued.
Gustavus travels to Mankato on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup at Bethany Lutheran College.
