SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men's and women's swimming & diving team completed the home portion of its schedule Friday evening, hosting Carleton for a dual meet and Senior Night at Vic Gustafson Pool. The Gusties swept the meet, taking first in a combined 20 events. The men posted a score of 191 to Carleton's 109, while the Gustie women won 167-133.
The men took first in 11 events and second in an additional five, including a sweep of Friday's relays. The 200 medley relay of
Peyton Richardson (5th, Crystal Lake, Ill.),
Nyden Hill (Sr., Conway, Ark.),
Jonah Ohrtman (Fy., Sioux Falls, S.D.), and
Logan Braley (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) claimed the top time in the event with an even 1:36.00. The second-place Carleton team finished in 1:39.12. In the 200 freestyle relay,
Logan Cyr (So., Maple Grove, Minn.),
Jack Christoferson (Jr., Sauk Rapids, Minn.),
Aiden Shermak (So., Bloomington, Minn.), and Braley took first with a time of 1:28.63. The Gusties also claimed second in the 200 free relay, as
Will Sarkinen (Jr., St. Michael, Minn.),
Matthew Lillejord (So., Naples, Fla.), Theodore Solensky (So., Jamestown, N.D.), and
Brendan Collins (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) finished in 1:29.08.
Braley added two additional individual wins to lead the Gusties to victory on Friday, taking first in the 50 and 100 freestyle in 21.97 and 48.66, respectively. Christoferson finished second in the 50 free behind his teammate in 22.62, while Shermak was second in the 100 free in 49.70.
Richardson claimed a trio of wins, taking first in both the 100 and 200 butterfly, as well as the 200 backstroke. Richardson touched the wall first in the 200 fly in 1:59.20, followed by teammate
Jacob Robischon (Fy., Sauk Centre, Minn.) in second (2:02.22). In the 100 fly, Richardson finished in 51.06 in the 100 fly and 1:58.22 in the 200 backstroke.
Ben Kell (So., Minneapolis, Minn.), Collins, Hill, and Cyr rounded out the Gustie individual wins on Friday, with Kell winning the 1,000 freestyle (10:23.23), Collins the 200 freestyle (1:49.54), Hill the 100 breaststroke (59.92), and Cyr the 500 freestyle (4:55.69). Kell and Lillejord added second and third place finishes in the 500 freestyle behind Cyr.
Cyr was the top finisher in the 100 backstroke, taking second in 55.12. Hill added a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke, while Robischon took second in the 200 IM in 2:01.01.
On the boards,
Ryan Lester (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) placed second on both the 1-meter (220.00) and the 3-meter (285.15).
Trevor Johnson (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished fourth on the 1-meter and third on the 3-meter.
The Gustie women also swept both relays, as
Eloise Cooper (Fy., Stevens Point, Wis.),
Lindsay Sundby (Jr., Randolph, Minn.),
Marit Isaacson (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.), and
Olivia Koeneman (So., Mankato, Minn.) took first in the 200 medley with a 1:51.55 to start Friday's meet. Isaacson,
Geneva Fackler (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.),
Stella Anderson Moye (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), and Koeneman won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.97.
Fackler and Anderson Moye each had a pair of individual victories on Friday, as the first-year Fackler won both the 1,000 and the 500 freestyle. She posted a 11:11.31 in the 1,000, followed by a 5:25.35 in the 500 free. Anderson Moye and
Teresa Gatti (Fy., St. Paul, Minn.) were second and third behind Fackler in the 500 freestyle as well. Anderson Moye touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (2:00.91) and the 100 freestyle (55.44).
Kateyln Siers (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.) won the 50 free in 25.33, while
Linnea Reinsmoen (Fy., Doha, Qatar) took first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.60.
Sommer Krause added a first place finish in the 200 IM in 2:18.74, followed by Reinsmoen in second.
Cooper and
Felicia Symreng (So., Stockholm, Sweden) added second place finishes for the Gusties in the 100 backstroke (Cooper, 1:00.62) and the 200 backstroke (Symreng, 2:17.93). Gustavus also claimed third through eighth in the 200 back. Sundby was the highest Gustie finisher in the 100 breaststroke, taking third in 1:12.18. Krause also finished third in the 200 butterfly for the highest Gustie place.
On the boards,
Gabriella Stoudt (Jr., Maple Plain, Minn.) took third on the 1-meter (203.60) and 3-meter (220.60).
Jessica Pagelkopf (So., Esko, Minn.) added points for the Gusties on both as well, taking fifth in each competition.
The Gusties travel to Wisconsin next weekend for the two-day UW-Stevens Point Invite Friday and Saturday. Competition start times are set at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
