Track & Field Back in Rhythm at St. Olaf Ole Opener

1/18/2025 7:36:00 PM

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Gustavus men's and women's track & field teams got back into the swing of things Saturday at the St. Olaf Ole Opener as a number of Gusties recorded personal bests and podium finishes.

"The energy was pretty high and the team performed well," said Head Coach Aaron Lund. "This was a great way to get back into the rhythm of competing. Our team has been working hard in practice, and this was definitely a great start. We had a big number of personal bests, indoor personal bests or started off this season in a better spot than they started last season. That's a great sign of even better things to come as we work through our season schedule and be ready to be at our best for the conference championships."

The Gustie women captured four first-place finishes, including Megan Geraets in the 200-meter (25.91) and long jump (17-6.25), Sarrah Lindner in the triple jump (34-0.25), and the 4x200 relay team of Kate Carlson, A. Stacy, McKenzie Luetmer, and Geraets (1:48.51). Second place finishers included Carlson in the 200-meter (26.30) and Aubrey Mair in the 1000-meter (3:26.88). Alli Graff had a strong showing in the pole vault as the top MIAC finisher, taking fourth place overall with a height of 10-10.0, which ranks 40th in NCAA Division III.

The men were highlighted by Zechariah Kyoore, Niko Vargas, Jade Anstine, and Conner Martens taking first place in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:32.66. The 4x400 relay team of Cohen Stursa, Cullen Arneson, Sam Schulze, and Reese Blondin took second place in 3:32.66. Other second place finishers included Zack Stordahl in the weight throw (44-10.75), Logan Sandmeyer in the long jump (20-10.5), and Cole Matetich in the high jump (6-0.75)

Gustavus returns to St. Olaf next Friday and Saturday for the St. Olaf Invitational.
