BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Academic All-Conference selections for the 2024 fall season on Thursday, Jan. 23 and 100 Gustavus student-athletes received the distinction. 

Gustavus had the second-most awardees of any MIAC institution, just one behind Macalester (101), and three ahead of St. Olaf (97) in third. Saint John's totaled 85 for fourth, followed by Carleton (84), and Bethel (74). 

In order to qualify for Academic All-MIAC status, student-athletes must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors by academic standards with a minimum cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students must also have completed one full-time academic year at their current institution prior to becoming eligible for the honor. 

To meet the athletic qualifications, an individual must be a member of a MIAC-sponsored varsity sports team, be academically and athletically eligible, have utilized a season of participation per NCAA and MIAC definitions, and have remained on the sports roster through the conclusion of the sports season in order to be eligible for Academic All-Conference honors.

Of the 100 Gustie student-athletes recognized, 56 also received Academic All-Conference honors last year, while 31 earned the award for the third year in a row. Cody Bonk (5th, Buffalo, Minn.), Jake Breitbach (5th, Golden Valley, Minn.), Nick James (5th, Evanston, Ill.), Owen Johnson (5th, Apple Valley, Minn.), Sam Just (5th, Lakeville, Minn.), Lauren Klaith (5th, Rockford, Minn.), and Kasie Tweet (5th, Adrian, Minn.) each received their fourth consecutive Academic All-MIAC distinction. 

The Gustavus student-athletes represented averaged a GPA of 3.81 on a 4.0 scale. A total of 15 student-athletes recorded a GPA of 4.0, while 33 posted a 3.9 or above. Exercise physiology (15) was the most common major among the awardees, followed by biology (13), and nursing (eight).
