STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Gustavus women's swimming & diving team sits in second of five teams after the first day of competition at the UW-Stevens Point Invite, totaling 428.5 points through the first nine events on Friday, Jan. 24.
UW-La Crosse, ranked regionally at No. 9, just ahead of the Gusties who sit 10th in the CSCAA regional polls, is leading the competition with a total of 632.5 points. The host Pointers are third (273.5), followed by Hamline (105.5) and UW-Eau Claire, which totaled 22 points competing only in diving.
Marit Isaacson (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) picked up the only win of the day for the Gusties, touching the wall first in the 200 IM. Isaacson posted a time of 2:13.01, over three seconds better than her time in Friday morning's prelims. Six other Gusties joined Isaacson in the top 13 of the event.
The senior led the Gustie A 200 freestyle relay team to a second place finish alongside
Geneva Fackler (Fy., Plymouth, Minn.),
Katelyn Siers (Fy., St. Cloud, Minn.), and MIAC Swimmer of the Week
Stella Anderson Moye (So., Inver Grove Heights) with a time of 1:40.75. Fackler added an additional second place finish in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 55.37.
The Gusties took third in a trio of events, as Anderson Moye added another top five performance in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:26.95.
Madison Witte (So., Glencoe, Minn.) took third in the 200 butterfly, while
Linnea Reinsmoen (Fy., Doha, Qatar) finished fifth in the same event with a 2:24.12. The 400 medley relay team of
Eloise Cooper (Fy., Stevens Point, Wis.),
Lindsay Sundby (Jr., Randolph, Minn.), Isaacson, and Fackler also touched the wall third with a time of 4:11.01. Two other Gustie relay teams finished seventh and eighth.
Sundby was the top Gustie in the 200 breaststroke, taking fourth with a time of 2:35.64, while six others contributed points to the team total in the event. Cooper, returning to her hometown for the first time in her collegiate career, was the top Gustie in the 100 backstroke, posting a 1:02.64 for seventh.
Gabriella Stoudt (Jr., Maple Plain, Minn.) led the Gusties on the boards, taking seventh on the 3-meter with a 349.80.
Erin Hall (So., Bloomington, Minn.) finished 12th, scoring a 298.60, while
Jessica Pagelkopf (So., Esko, Minn.) added a 274.85 for 17th.
The meet concludes tomorrow, Jan. 25, with preliminary races beginning at 10 a.m., followed by 12:30 p.m. 1-meter diving, and 4 p.m. finals.
