SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's swimming & diving team competed against the Luther College Norse in their season opener Saturday afternoon, winning 195-101.
Charlie Newton won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.04.
Logan Braley took first in the 100 freestyle and had the top Gustie time in the 50 freestyle at 22.10. Theodore Solensky led Gustavus in the 500 freestyle, placing second with a time of 5:09.55.
Ben Kell placed second in the 1000 freestyle at 10:23.28.
Josh Wallin took first in the 50 backstroke, winning in 24.81 seconds. Declan Vahey led Gustavus in the 100 backstroke with a third-place finish (53.43).
Brandon Wilcek won the 50 breaststroke for the Gusties, leading the way with a time of 27.79.
Braden Ripken took the win in the 100 breaststroke at 59.59.
Aiden Carlson earned two wins for Gustavus, taking the 100 butterfly (53.23) and the 50 butterfly (23.71).
Aidynn Havermann took first in the 200 IM in 2:00.68.
Trevor Johnson lead the Gusties in the diving events, taking third in the 3-meter dive (149.20) and 1-meter (162.05).
The team of Wallin, Ripken, Carlson, and Vahey won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.94. The Gusties earned another relay win in the 200 freestyle relay where Braley, Theodore Solensky,
Aiden Shermak, and Ripken race to a first-place finish in 1:28.11.
Up next for the Gusties is a home meet against UW-Stevens Point and MSU-Mankato on Saturday, October 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the Vic Gustafson Pool.
