ROME, Ga. – Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn of the Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team are competing in the ITA Cup this week. On the opening day of the tournament on Thursday, the duo advanced to the doubles quarterfinals and competed in two singles matches.
In doubles, Elvestrom and De Bruijn faced Amelie Gonzalez and Ginevra Muratori of Skidmore College in the opening round of 16. The Gustie duo earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5) opening set win. They then took the second set 6-3 to win the match and advance to the national quarterfinals.
In singles, both Elvestrom (0-6, 2-6) and De Bruijn (3-6, 3-6) fell in their opening round matches.
Up next is day two of the ITA Cup on Friday, October 17. In doubles, Elvestrom and De Bruijn will take on Iris Berman and Emily Kantrovitz of Emory University in the quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m. In singles, both Gusties will compete at 9:00 a.m. as Elvestrom battles Nana Vang of Whitman College and De Brujin takes on Eleanor Archer of WashU.
