WHITEWATER, Wis. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team competed in the second and final day of the Warhawk Fall Invite on Saturday. Following a successful first day on Friday that consisted mostly of doubles competition, the Gusties continued their strong weekend in singles play against host UW-Whitewater as well as two Division I teams: Illinois State and UW-Milwaukee.
In the first flight,
Karina Elvestrom followed up her 6-3, 6-2 singles win on Friday by rallying for a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, (11-9) win against her DI opponent: Natalia Castaneda Guerrero of UW-Milwaukee.
Rory Wahlstrand won another singles match for the Gusties in the top flight, defeating Abigail Weaver of UW-Whitewater 6-4, 6-3.
In flight two, two Gusties earned wins over DI players.
Noor Omar followed her 6-3, 6-1 win on the first day with a 0-6, 6-3, (11-9) comeback victory over Valentina Vallova of UW-Milwaukee.
Lanie Davis won her match against Ella McLeod of Illinois State 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), (10-2) on Saturday.
In the third flight,
Jemima Vitou won 6-3, 2-6, (10-4) over Kailyn Remke of UW-Whitewater on day two.
Rika Cross won her match against Remke as well 6-2, 6-3.
In flight four,
Melat Tabara was winning 5-0 until her DI opponent Anna Houpt retired due to injury.
Katie Thompson competed in a pair of matches on Saturday, winning 7-6, 6-4 over her teammate Tabara and going up 6-2, 3-4 over Karolina Sckowranska of UW-Milwaukee before her DI opponent had to retire to injury.
Bethany Smith won her match against Ava Andrae of UW-Whitewater 6-2, 3-6, (10-6) in the fifth flight.
In the sixth flight, Evellyn Bryson won her match against Chloe Knutson of UW-Whitewater 6-2, 6-0.
Up next for Gustavus is the ITA Cup on October 15 in Rome, Georgia.
