ROME, Ga. – Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn of the Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team are competing in the ITA Cup this week. On the second day of the tournament on Friday, the duo competed in a quarterfinals doubles match and singles contests.
The Gusties battled Iris Berman and Emily Kantrovitz of Emory University in the doubles quarterfinals. Elvestrom and De Bruijn fell 3-6 in the opening set. They then battled to a tiebreaker in the second, but fell 7-6 (7-4).
Elvestrom rallied to win her singles match against Nana Vang of Whitman College. The Gustie sophomore dropped the first set 5-7, but rallied to sweep the second set 6-0 and clinch the match with a 6-3 third-set victory.
De Bruijn battled Eleanor Archer of WashU, falling 7-6 (7-5) in a first-set thriller and then 6-1 in set two.
Up next is the third day of the ITA Cup on Saturday, October 18. In doubles, Elvestrom and De Bruijn will take on Alessandra Sikharulidze and Matia Cristiani of Babson College at 3:30 p.m. EST. In singles, both Gusties will compete at 9:00 a.m. as Elvestrom battles Sarena Biria of UChicago and De Brujin takes on Lucy Nabedrick of Trinity University.
