SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women's hockey team battled the St. Olaf College Oles in their home opener Saturday afternoon. The Gusties earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Oles as
Lily Mortenson scored the game-winner.
St. Olaf scored the first goal of the game in just the third minute, taking advantage of a power play to take a 1-0 lead.
The Gusties answered just 23-seconds later as
Taylor Insley scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
Grace Schuck assisted with the goal.
After those two goals were scored in quick succession in the opening frame, the two teams battled scoreless through the remainder of regulation.
In overtime, Mortenson scored her game-winner around two minutes into the extra period.
Ava Jovan assisted on the golden goal.
Gustavus outshot the Oles 37-12 in the win.
Up next for the Gusties is a road trip up to Moorhead for a two-game series at the Concordia College Cobbers starting Friday, November 21 at 7:00 p.m.
