SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team battled the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons at home Saturday night at the Don Roberts Ice Rink, falling 3-2 in overtime.
UW-River Falls struck first, scoring in the 10
th minute of the opening period to go up 1-0.
After a scoreless second frame, Gustavus broke through with a goal by
Jack Wineman, assisted by
Hunter Newhouse, in the third minute of the third period to tie the game up at 1-1.
Just five minutes later,
Kyle Doll gave the Gusties a 2-1 lead with a goal in the eighth minute of the third frame, assisted by
Sam Rice and
John Johannson.
The Falcons tied the game four minutes later, scoring with 8:32 remaining in the third.
Both defenses held through the end of the third period, sending the game to overtime tied 2-2.
With 1:46 remaining in overtime, UW-River Falls scored to win the game 3-2.
