WINONA, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's basketball team battled the Saint Mary's University Cardinals on the road Saturday afternoon in a conference contest. The Gusties cruised to a 90-54 victory over the Cardinals to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC.
The first eight minutes of the opening half saw Saint Mary's jump out to an early lead, going up by as many as eight points up 13-5. After that, however, Gustavus went on an incredible 27-0 run to take a 22-point lead up 35-13 with 5:36 to go in the first half. The Gusties build their lead up to 27 points by the end of the opening half, up 48-21.
In the second half, Gustavus continued their dominant performance on the court. The Gusties never led by less than 25 points the rest of the way while building their lead up to as many as 47 points, up 88-41 with 5:32 to go in the game. Gustavus ultimately secured a 90-54 victory to remain undefeated in conference games through the opening week of MIAC competition.
Myles Barnette led the Gusties with 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
Jake Schmitt and
Eli Wolff both scored 12 points in the win.
Connor Beauchamp had 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Up next for the Gusties is a return home to Saint Peter for a home game against the Saint John's University Johnnies on Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m.
