SAINT PETER, Minn. – After six games on the road in Texas, No. 23 Gustavus women's tennis returned home to the Swanson Tennis Center, hosting Luther (Iowa) for a non-conference match on Saturday, March 15. The Gusties (10-6, 2-0 MIAC) swept Luther (9-3, 8-0 A-R-C) 7-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Gusties claimed the doubles point with two wins, one at No. 1 and the other at No. 3, to start the match off up early over the Norse.
Kaya De Bruijn (Jr., Maasland, Netherlands) and
Molly Austin (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) claimed their victory first, a 6-1 win over the No. 1 team from Luther.
Brooke Haddorff (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) and
Pavla Yakimova (Jr., Glasgow, Scotland) won next at No. 3, 6-3.
The Gusties won all six singles matches, all of which came in two-set sweeps. De Bruijn and
Ella De Young (So., Iowa City, Iowa) each claimed a pair of 6-0 wins at the No. 1 and No. 5, respectively.
Lanie Davis (Fy., St. Louis, Mo.) won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1, while
Maya Brakhage (Fy., Boulder, Colo.) claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Noor Omar (Fy., Fridley, Minn.) added a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3, while Austin closed the match out with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2.
Gustavus returns to home court next weekend, hosting Nebraska Wesleyan (7-5, 4-4 A-R-C) and UW-Superior (11-4 overall) at the Swanson Tennis Center on March 22.
