SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women's tennis team rolled past a pair of non-conference opponents Saturday, March 22, defeating both Nebraska Wesleyan and UW-Superior by scores of 7-0. The wins, which are the 698 and 699th under Head Coach
Jon Carlson '88, move the Gusties to 12-6 on the season.
Gustavus 7, Nebraska Wesleyan 0
The Gusties opened the day with a morning sweep of the Prairie Wolves (7-6, 4-4 A-R-C), jumping out with a 1-0 lead with the doubles point.
Molly Austin (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) and partner
Lanie Davis (Fy., St. Louis, Mo.) claimed win one of the day with a 6-0 sweep at No. 1.
Madison Packer (Jr., Wadena, Minn.) and
Bethany Smith (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) also claimed a 6-0 win at No. 3.
Allison Szalay (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa) and
Ella De Young (So., Iowa City, Iowa) claimed a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, De Young (No. 4), Packer (No. 5), and
Rika Cross (Fy., Sacramento, Calif.) (No. 6) all claimed 6-0, 6-0 wins against their opponents. Austin won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, while Davis claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2. Szalay sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

In their second match of the day, the Gusties were just as efficient, defeating regional opponent Superior (11-5 overall) by an identical 7-0 score.
Brooke Haddorff (Sr., Burnsville, Minn.) and
Pavla Yakimova (Jr., Glasgow, Scotland) led the afternoon match off with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.
Maya Brakhage (Fy., Boulder, Colo.) and
Noor Omar (Fy., Fridley, Minn.) won 6-1 at No. 2, while nationally-ranked
Karina Elvestrom (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) and
Kaya De Bruijn (Jr., Maasland, Netherlands) claimed a 6-2 win at No. 1.
In singles play, both Elvestrom and De Bruijn swept their competitors by a pair of 6-0 scores. Omar won at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0, while Haddorff earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. Yakimova and Packer closed the day out with a pair of 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively.
The Gusties (12-6, 2-0 MIAC) will enjoy a weekend off before competing as a split squad April 4, with one group traveling to Madison, Wis. to compete in the Midwest Invite, while the other will host Central (Iowa) at the Swanson Tennis Center.
