BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For the third time this season and second time in as many weeks,
Kaya De Bruijn has been selected as the MIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday, April 28.
De Bruijn (Jr., Maasland, Netherlands) was 4-0 in a pair of wins that helped the Gusties clinch the 2025 MIAC Regular Season Championship. She won 8-4 and 8-5 at No. 1 doubles with partner
Karina Elvestrom (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) against Bethel and St. Scholastica. She also claimed two wins, each 6-2 and 6-1, at No. 2 singles against the Royals and Saints.
The junior is 17-8 this season in singles play and 7-1 in the conference, with her only loss coming at No. 1 to the nationally-ranked top player at St. Catherine. All of her other wins in MIAC singles have come in the No. 2 spot. She's won nine of her last 10 singles matches, as well. She and Elvestrom are 22-7 in doubles play this year, and undefeated in conference play with a mark of 9-0. All of their wins have come in the No. 1 slot for the Gusties, and the team has claimed seven victories over regionally-ranked opponents.
This is De Bruijn's fifth honor of her career, as she earned the selection last week (April 21) and April 7 of this season, and twice more in her sophomore year. Three Gusties, including De Bruijn, have won four MIAC weekly honors.
The 2025 championship is the first for the team since the 2021-22 season, and awards the Gusties the No. 1 seed in the MIAC Women's Tennis Playoffs, set to begin Wednesday, April 30. Gustavus (24-7, 10-0 MIAC) will host a semifinal match and the lowest remaining seed on Friday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Saint Peter. The championship will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed.
