BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Kaya De Bruijn (Jr., Maasland, Netherlands) was named the MIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the third time in her career on Monday, April 7.
De Bruijn led the Gusties to a 2-1 weekend at the annual Midwest Invite against a trio of nationally ranked teams. The junior won all of her matches at No. 2 singles, going 3-0, in addition to a pair of doubles wins with partner
Karina Elvestrom (Fy., Minnetonka, Minn.) on both Friday and Saturday. Their only loss came to No. 21 Whitman's Blunt and Yu, ranked fourth in the west region.
De Bruijn has won her last five singles matches at No. 2, and she and Elvestrom are ranked No. 12 in the nation and No. 6 in the region as a doubles pair. Six of their wins have come against teams featured in the regional rankings, and they are 7-3 in their last 10 matches.
This is De Bruijn's third honor of her career, as she earned the selection twice in her sophomore season. She is the third Gustie this season to earn the weekly award, as first-years Elvestrom and
Noor Omar (Fridley, Minn.) were selected earlier in the year.
The Gusties return for another busy weekend April 12-13, playing five matches in two days, including another trip to Wisconsin to face UW-River Falls (5-10, 1-5 WIAC) and UW-Stout (4-13, 0-6 WIAC), as well as MIAC matches against St. Catherine (11-3, 5-2 MIAC), St. Olaf (9-0, 6-0 MIAC), and Saint Benedict (4-6, 1-3 MIAC).
