Melissa Lee Named Assistant Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator

SAINT PETER, Minn. – Melissa Lee has been hired as an Assistant Athletic Director and the Senior Woman Administrator for Gustavus Adolphus College, athletic director Tom Brown announced Friday, July 25th. Lee comes to Gustavus from Augsburg University where she was the Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. 
 
"We're thrilled to welcome Melissa Lee to our athletics leadership team as Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator," said Brown. "With over 20 years of experience in the MIAC, a deep understanding of Division III athletics, and a strong commitment to student-athlete success, Melissa brings tremendous knowledge and perspective that will help guide our department forward while continuing the proud tradition of excellence at Gustavus." 
 
In addition to her experience as the Associate AD and SWA, Lee served on the Auggies' softball coaching staff for 21 years. She started as an assistant in 2005 before serving as the head coach for eight seasons from 2017 through 2024. In her time as head coach, the Auggies won 125 games with four seasons over 20 wins. Lee led her team to a 26-win season in her final year as head coach, tying Augsburg's program record for overall wins in a season from 1983. 
 
"I'm very excited to be joining the Gustavus athletics department which has a reputation as a powerhouse in the MIAC," said Lee. "I truly love Division III and the MIAC, and I am hoping my experiences can help promote and advocate for all student-athletes as they continue to grow on their academic and athletic journeys." 
 
Lee earned her undergraduate degree in health and physical education from Augsburg in 2004. She went on to earn her master's degree in organizational management with a sports management emphasis from Concordia University-St. Paul in 2009. 
 
A four-year softball student-athlete for the Auggies, Lee was elected into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022. In her collegiate career, she started all 141 games for Augsburg and never missed a single inning. Lee earned All-MIAC honors her senior year, all-conference honorable mention honors twice, and NFCA All-Midwest Region honors her sophomore season. She hit .296 in her career with 50 runs scored, 40 RBI, and 26 extra-base hits. She played third base and finished with a school-record 367 career assists and a .962 career fielding percentage.
