SAINT PETER, Minn – The Gustavus Adolphus College football team begins their season this Saturday, September 6th, at 3:00 P.M. CT, visiting the Whitworth University Pirates in Spokane, Washington. The 2025 season marks the 111th iteration of Gustie Football.
The Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties start the season on the road for the first time since 2022. In the 2024 season, the Gusties finished 5-5, going 4-4 In the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. This will be a season of new faces for the Gusties, who lose nine defensive starters along with four MIAC All-Conference members. Coach Haugen said in an interview with KEYC, "A lot of these guys out here that are going to be getting their first opportunities, they're guys that have been playing behind older players, so I'm really excited about the new leadership".
The Gusties move into MIAC play after this week, following the new adjusted MIAC football schedule format. The new format calls for a single round-robin format, meaning each team plays each other, opposed to the former divisional format. The MIAC championship has gone away and the MIAC Champion and automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament will be given to the team who wins the conference.
The game this week can be watched on FloCollege and live stats can be found on the Whitworth Pirates website, along with the Gustavus Athletics website.
