DE PERE, Wis. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's soccer team faced the Carthage College Firebirds on Friday at the St. Norbert College Tournament in De Pere, Wisconsin. The Gusties defeated the Firebirds 2-1 to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Gustavus fell behind early as the Firebirds scored in the 20
th minute. Just four minutes later, however, the Gusties struck back to tie the game on a
Cal Avery goal with
Sam Kaeding assisting.
Both teams battles in a stalemate until
Joe Flory put Gustavus on top in the 66
th minute with a game-winning goal.
Kieran Mahan assisted Flory on the game-winner.
Micah Lesch had one save in goal as Gustavus held Carthage to just three total shots in the game.
Up next for the Gusties is one more game at the St. Norbert College Tournament on Saturday, September 6 as they take on Calvin University at 5:00 p.m.
