Men's Soccer Garners USC Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On August 1st, the United Soccer Coaches announced their College Team Academic Award Winners and the Gustavus men's soccer team made the list. This award recognizes exemplary performance in the classroom for the 2024-25 academic year. 

A total of 740 soccer teams (303 men, 437 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2024-25 academic year. Of that total, 168 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.

The men's soccer team ended the year with a 3.39 cumulative GPA, good for fourth in the MIAC. The conference was represented well at the top, with Macalester leading the nation in team GPA at 3.83. The other teams represented in the conference were Augsburg (3.34), Carleton (3.71), and St. Olaf (3.47). 

The 2024 season was highlighted on the field with an NCAA Second Round appearance and a MIAC Championship. After the season, six team members were named to the CSC Academic All-District team.Those members were senior Egan Bedwell (Milwaukee, Wis./Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), fifth-year Brian Brown (Lino Lakes, Minn./Biology), sophomore Joe Flory (Whitechurch, England/Economics), fifth-year Owen Johnson (Apple Valley, Minn./Exercise Physiology), junior Spencer Skjeldestad (Sogndal, Norway/Computer Science), and sophomore Simon Woods (Sioux Falls, S.D./Physics). 

The 2025 season gets underway on August 29th, when the Gusties host the University of Chicago at 1:00 pm at the Gustie Soccer Field.
