MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Gustavus women's soccer team fell to Concordia on Saturday, 1-0. The contest was played evenly in just about every statistic, but the Cobbers managed to find the goal to break the deadlock.
First-year
Brayleigh Sumner (Grafton, Wis.) had the best chances of the first half for Gustavus, firing two shots on goal in quick succession from close range. The first one was saved by the goalkeeper from close range and the second was cleared away by a Cobber defender. The Gusties led in shots on goal in the first half, 4-1 with two by Sumner, one by senior Halima Bigirindayvi (St. Louis Park, Minn.) and the other by first-year
Julia Davis (Duluth, Minn.). Each team had four corner kicks in the first half and the half ended at 0-0.
The second half started with another shot by Davis which forced a save but the one and only goal came for the Cobbers at 59:53 off of a corner. Both first-year
Luci Chastey (Duluth, Minn.) and sophomore
Sophia Post (Mankato, Minn.) had shots on goal after to try and tie the game, but nothing prevailed and Gustavus lost the contest, 1-0.Â
Sumner and Davis led with two shots on goal and senior goalkeeper
Katelyn Olson (Cloquet, Minn.) made seven saves in the contest.Â
Gustavus women's soccer is back in action on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. hosting Saint Mary's.Â
