SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team competed in the opening day of the Warhawk Fall Invite on Friday. Competing with the Gusties at this year's invite is the host UW-Whitewater as well as two Division I teams: Illinois State and UW-Milwaukee.
The Gusties won two of their four singles matches on the opening day of the invite.
Karina Elvestrom won her lone singles match of the day, defeating Abigail Weaver of UW-Whitewater 6-2, 6-1.
Noor Omar took a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ella McLeod of DI Illinois State.
Four Gustie duos played two doubles on Friday with three earning victories. The Gusties top duo of Elvestrom and
Rory Wahlstrand won both of their matches, winning 8-2 over a UW-Whitewater pair and taking down a DI duo from UW-Milwaukee 8-6.
Lanie Davis and
Ella De Young earned an 8-2 victory over a DI Illinois State team. Omar and
Maya Brakhage won 8-6 over their teammates
Jemima Vitou and
Melat Tabara.
Three more Gustavus doubles pairs competed in three matches each against UW-Whitewater opponents on the opening day of the invite.
Katie Thompson and
Sidney Wright won 7-5 and 6-4 victories in two of their matches.
Bethany Smith and
Annie Klemmensen also won two of their matches, taking their first 8-4 and their second 6-2.
Rika Cross and
Evelyn Bryson went 2-1 as well, sweeping the Warhawks 6-0 in their first and third matches of the day.
