Women’s Golf Stands 12th of 24 after Round One of Golfweek October Classic

10/18/2026 9:52:00 PM

DESTIN, Fla. – The Gustavus Adolphus College women's golf team is competing in the three-day Golfweek October Classic in Florida at the the Links Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. After the opening day of the three-round tournament, the Gusties stand in 12th place out of the field of 24 competing teams from across the nation with a first-round score of +43.

"Not a bad start for the women," said Gustavus head coach Scott Moe. "The wind and golf course were very hard on the first nine holes. The grass is very different down here making the greens challenging and very slow. It took us quite a while to adjust as we are used to our fast greens back home."

Mary Hardin-Baylor leads the field after the first round with a score of +13. UC Santa Cruz follows in second at +24. UW-Eau Claire and Huntingdon are tied for third at +27.

Teckla Wahlstrand led Gustavus in the opening round, shooting +4 to place her in tie for fifth overall out of the field of 120 golfers. The sophomore stands just three strokes behind the three athletes currently tied for first place with a first-round score of +1.

Addison Longie and Riley Zebroski tied for the second-best Gustie score on day one, shooting +12 to tie for 56th overall. Annika Johnson had the fourth counted score for Gustavus in round one, shooting +15 to tie for 81st overall. Karina Johnson shot +17 to tie for 96th overall in the first round.

"I know we can score better, but I felt like our ball tracking was decent today," said Moe. "Great round today by Teckla, she was super consistent in the challenging conditions and finished with a great score. Excited for round two tomorrow."

Up next for the Gusties is round two of the Golfweek October Classic on Monday, October 19. The first Gustavus tee time is set for at 6:30 a.m. CT.
