SANDESTIN, Fla. - The Gustavus men's golf team bettered their first day score of 308 by five strokes on Monday at the Golfweek October Classic, held at the Raven Golf Course at Sandestin Resorts.
First-year
Noah Gratil (Mellieha, Malta) was the top scorer for the team with a +1 (72) across the 18 holes. Gratil and Gustavus started on hole one today and it was a rollercoaster for the first-year, finding only seven pars throughout the round but battled back down to a 72 with birdies on holes 17 and 18. Sophomore
Kyle Peterson (Duluth, Minn.) shot three strokes better on Day 2 than Day 1 with a 74, going 37-36 which included a birdie on hole 16, a 207-yard par three. Senior
Blake Forrest (Maple Grove, Minn.) shot a 78 during his second round, one shot better than the day previous. Sophomore
Charlie Looker (Cottage Grove, Minn.) rounded off the scoring again with a 79.
Gratil, Peterson, and Forrest all made ground from their first day score by a combined five strokes, which helped move the team up. "On a tough course, you can't get away with big misses, and we have found that out the hard way," said head coach
Scott Moe. "Our misses need to be in play. We have great stretches of solid golf and then have a big hole. Our goal is to minimize that tomorrow and finish strong. Noah has played very well".
The team will return to the Raven Golf Club for their final round of the fall season tomorrow.
