Track & Field Shines in Northfield With 19 Podium Finishes

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Both the Gustavus men's and women's teams competed in a two day meet featuring a crowded field of 14 teams. The women's team recorded eight top three performances, while the men posted 11.

For the women's team, Kayla Kajer opened the meet by securing a second place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.84.

The Gusties long sprint group also impressed, led by Isabel Fynboh placing first in the 300m with a time of 43.89 and Lauren Rocheford placing third in the 400m at 1:03.83.

Molly Liston finished second in the mile with a time of 5:15.94, and Katja Wallin followed with a second place finish in the 800m, running 2:25.70.

In the field events, Kayla Kajer added another first place finish by clearing 1.60m in the high jump. Kaylee Hawks followed with a first place performance in the triple jump, recording a mark of 10.63m.

On the men's side, Connor McCormick won the heptathlon with 4590 points, followed by Amos Anderson who placed third with 4255 points.

Frank Terwey edged out a first place finish in the 60m, clocking a time of 7.14. Jade Anstine represented the 200m squad for a second place finish of 22.64.

The Gusties dominated the 300m by sweeping the podium. Conner Martens, Simon Lippert, and Anikan Larson placed first, second, and third with times of 36.35, 36.94, and 37.11.

Nicholas Brauer had a standout day, beginning with a first place finish in the mile at 4:19.35. Later, he mustered the energy to add a second place finish in the 1000m with a time of 2:33.07, which ranks him inside the top 50 nationally.

In the field, Kyler Flunker cleared 1.93m in the high jump to place third. Liam Frommelt recorded a mark of 6.50m to finish third in the long jump and followed with a second place finish in the triple jump at 13.43m.

To close the meet, the men's 4x2 relay of Tyler Heil, Luke Scheel, Martens, and Lippert ran 1:31.14 to secure a first place finish.

The Gusties will compete next weekend in River Falls at the UWRF Winter Classic.
