Women’s Swim & Dive Wins 800 Freestyle Relay on Opening Night of MIAC Championship

MINNEAPOLIS - The Gustavus Adolphus College women's swimming and diving team is competing this week in the MIAC Championship. Hosted at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus, the four-day championship runs February 11-14.
 
In the opening night of the championship on Wednesday, the Gusties placed first in the 800 freestyle relay and took fourth in the 200 medley relay. Gustavus leads the MIAC after the opening sessions with 70 points, up by four over second-place Saint Benedict.
 
The team of Geneva Fackler, Caitlyn Otto, Leah Felton, and Stella Anderson Moye won the 800 freestyle relay for Gustavus with a time of 7:43.68. The Gusties bested runner-up Macalester in the race by 0.96 seconds. Gustavus entered the championship meet with the second-best MIAC time in the event at 7:56.13, trailing St. Olaf at 7:54.44. Their first-place finish at the championship set a new top time for the conference this season in the relay.
 
The Gusties took fourth place in the 200 medley relay. The team of Katelyn Siers, Lindsay Sundby, Madison Witte, and Leah Felton swam the relay in 1:46.37, besting the previous top Gustavus time this season by 2.20 seconds.
 
Up next for Gustavus is day two of the MIAC Championships this Thursday, February 12. The scheduled finals events for the evening session beginning at 6:30 p.m. are the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, one-meter dive, and the 400 medley relay.
