SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College men's hockey team battled the College of St. Scholastica at home on Friday night in the opening game of a weekend series. The Gusties delivered a well-rounded win, shutting out St. Scholastica 4-0.
The Gusties struck first midway through the second period. At 10:39,
Kyle Doll got the first goal for the Gusties, assisted by
John Johannson and
Brendan Sloth, to put the Gusties up 1-0.
Gustavus added to their lead in the third period, scoring three goals in the span of just over 11 minutes.
Sam Rice scored the second goal for the Gusties at 5:53, with assists from
Jack Anderson and
Ludvig Mellgren.
Drew Holt followed at 13:20, with a feed from
Wilmer Svensson to make it a 3-0 game.
Charlie Sandven finished off the night with a late third-period goal at 17:01 and sealed the 4-0 final.
The Gusties were strong all around in the game Friday night, outshooting the Saints 31-21 and controlling the faceoff circle, winning 68% of the draws.
The Gusties were strong defensively throughout the contest, going 5-5 on the penalty kill.
Colin Androlewicz turned away all 21 shots from the Saints.
