SAINT PETER, Minn - On Saturday afternoon, the No. 12 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day with a dominant 120-92 victory over the Saint Mary's University Cardinals. The Gusties have now defeated Saint Mary's in each of their last six meetings. With the win, the 2025-26 MIAC Champions will enter the postseason with a 23-2 overall record while finishing first atop the conference standings with a 15-1 record in MIAC play.
The game started off close, with Gustavus leading 26-22 halfway through the first half. The Gusties were leading 40-35 with six minutes left in the first half and then proceeded to go on an 18-5 run. At halftime, Gustavus held a 58-40 lead, shooting 21-for-38 from the field and 10-for-21 from three point range in the period.
In the second half, Gustavus took complete control of the game, and with 10 minutes remaining in the half the score was 92-60. Saint Mary's was never able to come close to taking the lead in the second half and Gustavus' lead stayed greater than 25 points for the rest of the game, finishing with a final score of 120-92.
Gustavus excelled from the three-point line, shooting 46.2% from three compared to Saint Mary's shooting 38.7%. Their bench played a key role in the victory, outscoring the Saint Mary's bench 61-35. Rebounding also was an important factor for the Gusties, as they grabbed 40 rebounds compared to Saint Mary's 24.
The top scorer for Gustavus was
Eli Wolff with 16 points, shooting 60% from the field.
Andrew Quam and
Myles Barnette both had a good scoring game as well as they both had 15 points.
Carson Koch was the team's top rebounder, grabbing seven rebounds.
Gustavus' next matchup will be at home on Thursday, February 26 in the MIAC Playoff Semifinals. The game will take place at 8:00 p.m. with the Gusties' opponent to be determined by the quarterfinals round on Tuesday, February 24.
