BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Whitley Ronn of the Gustavus Adolphus College women's basketball team has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Ronn was dominant defensively to help the Gusties gain two key wins over MIAC Playoff teams to secure the No. 2 seed for the women's basketball playoffs. On Thursday, she stole the ball away five times herself to help the team force 20 turnovers by St. Scholastica in a six-point victory, including on the last two possessions by the Saints. Turning around on Saturday with major playoff implications, Ronn continued to raise her level, stealing the ball away three times and adding three blocks. In addition to forcing turnovers, Ronn came down with 11 rebounds and added 23 points on the week to average 12.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, four steals, and 1.5 blocks.
Now, the Gusties await the results of the quarterfinal matchups in the MIAC Playoff Championship and have earned the right to host on Thursday, February 26th. The game is scheduled tentatively for 5:00 p.m. on Gus Young Court.
