BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Myles Barnette of the No. 8 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College men's basketball team has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Barnette led the defensive effort for No. 8 Gustavus with seven steals and 11 rebounds in two games while averaging 26.0 points per game on 71% shooting from the field to lead the Gusties to wins over Saint John's and Macalester, extending the Gusties' win streak to 19 games in a row. The junior guard scored 28 points on 67% shooting with seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in a 72-61 win over the Johnnies. Barnette then scored 24 points on 77% shooting with four rebounds and three steals in just 23 minutes in the 91-58 win at Macalester.
Up next for Gustavus is a return home to Saint Peter where they will play the final three games of the regular season, starting on Wednesday, February 11 against the Carleton College Knights at 7:00 p.m. at Gus Young Court.
