SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team competed in three conference matches on Saturday, taking on the Hamline University Pipers, the College of St. Scholastica Saints, and the College of Saint Benedict Bennies. The Gusties swept the day with 7-0 wins over all three opponents, remaining undefeated in the MIAC at 4-0 and improving to 16-5 overall.
Match One: Hamline
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis swept the #2 doubles match 6-0 to give Gustavus an early edge in doubles over the Pipers.
Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn followed with a 6-2 victory in #1 doubles to secure the team point for the Gusties.
Ella De Young and
Pavla Yakimova closed doubles with a 6-2 win in the #3 match.
Elvestrom opened singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the #1 match as the Gusties went up 2-0. Austin followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win of her own at #3 singles to put Gustavus up 3-0. Davis secured the team win for the Gusties with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #5 singles for the fourth team point.
De Bruijn took #2 singles 6-3, 6-0. Yakimova nearly swept #6 singles 6-0, 6-1. De Young completed the 7-0 team sweep for Gustavus with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #4 singles.
Match Two: St. Scholastica
Maya Brakhage and
Bethany Smith earned the first win of the match against the Saints, sweeping #3 doubles 6-0. De Young and
Allison Szalay followed with a 6-0 sweep of #2 doubles to clinch the team point. Elvestrom and De Bruijn completed the doubles sweep with a 6-0 win at #1.
Brakhage swept #5 singles 6-0, 6-0 for the second Gustie team point. Elvestrom then finished a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of #1 singles to put Gustavus up 3-0. Smith cemented the win for the Gusties with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #6 singles for the fourth team point.
De Bruijn nearly swept #2 singles 6-1, 6-0. De Young earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #3 singles. Szalay closed out the 7-0 match sweep for Gustavus with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #4 singles.
Match Three: Saint Benedict
Austin and Davis won #1 doubles 6-4. Yakimova and
Jemima Vitou took #2 doubles 6-4 as well.
Madison Packer and
Rika Cross earned a 6-2 victory at #3 doubles.
Austin won her #1 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Davis nearly swept #2 singles 6-1, 6-0. Yakimova earned a hard-fought 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) comeback victory at #3 singles. Cross cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at #4 singles. Packer won 6-3, 6-1 at #5 singles. Vitou took the #6 singles match 6-1, 6-2 as the Gusties completed their undefeated day.
