RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 18 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons and the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils on Saturday in a pair of road matches in Wisconsin. The Gusties swept both of their WIAC opponents 7-0 to improve to 22-5 overall this spring, extending their winning streak to 12 matches in a row.
Match One: UW-River Falls
Rika Cross and
Madison Packer earned the first win of the day with a 6-1 victory at #2 doubles.
Katie Thompson and
Melat Tabara followed with a 6-2 win at #3 doubles to secure the doubles team point for Gustavus.
Pavla Yakimova and
Jemima Vitou competed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 victory at the #1 match.
Yakimova doubled the Gusties lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win at #1 singles. Cross followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #2 singles to put Gustavus up 3-0. Packer clinched the team win for the Gusties with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #3 singles for the fourth team point.
Annie Klemmensen took #6 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Ashley Stroebel then took #5 singles 6-1, 6-2. Vitou completed the 7-0 sweep for Gustavus with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #4 singles.
Match Two: UW-Stout
The Blue Devils took #1 doubles, but Cross and Packer evened the doubles score with a 6-0 sweep at #2. Stroebel and Klemmensen secured the doubles team point for the Gusties with a 6-2 win at #3 doubles.
Packer swept #2 singles 6-0, 6-0 to put Gustavus up 2-0 in the match. Vitou earned the third point with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #3 singles. Cross clinched the match-deciding fourth team point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #1 singles.
Stroebel won 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles for a fifth Gustie point. Klemmensen and Thompson closed out the 7-0 team sweep by sweeping their #5 and #6 singles matches 6-0, 6-0.
