SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team battled the Macalester College Scots on Sunday afternoon in a conference doubleheader. The Gusties led 6-0 heading into the sixth inning of game one, but then it was all Macalester from then on as the Scotts rallied with an eight-run inning to defeat Gustavus 8-6 in game one and then carried the momentum into game two to top the Gusties 3-1. Gustavus moved to 11-13 overall and 4-4 in the MIAC.
Game One
The Gusties got on the board in the first inning as
Hailey Petzel doubled to drive in
Lauren Lambert from second, giving the Gusties a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning,
Macy McNally hit the second RBI double in as many innings for Gustavus to drive in
Olivia Guggenberger.
Macy Lembke then singled and stole second to put two runners in scoring position for
Caitlin Olafsson, who proceeded to drive in both with an RBI single to put the Gusties up 4-0.
Olafsson drove in another Gustavus run in the fourth with an RBI double to right center.
Taylor Katzenmeyer later drove in a sixth run with a single in the fifth as the Gusties took a 6-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Macalester rallied for an eight-run inning to go up 8-6. The Scots' pitching would hold Gustavus scoreless the rest of the way as they completed the comeback victory.
Game Two
Macalester maintained their momentum into game two, scoring in the first inning to go up 1-0. The Gusties responded with a run in the bottom half of the opening frame, tying the score 1-1.
The Scots retook the lead in the fourth, scoring from third on a passed ball with two outs as the batter struck out but the ball got past the catcher, allowing the batter to reach safely and a run to score.
Macalester added one more run in the seventh as they took the 3-1 win.

Gustavus will travel to St. Paul on Wednesday, April 15 to take on the Hamline University Pipers in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
