SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the No. 43 Carleton College Knights on Saturday in a battle between the last two teams who stood undefeated in the MIAC. The Gusties earned a 6-2 victory over the Knights to improve to 25-5 overall and stay undefeated in MIAC standings at 8-0, standing alone atop the conference with just two matches remaining.
Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn started the match with a 6-2 win at #1 doubles.
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis followed with a 6-3 victory at #2 doubles to secure the first team point for Gustavus.
Ella De Young and
Allison Szalay closed out doubles with a 6-4 win at the #3 match.
Davis won #6 singles in a 6-2, 7-6 (10-6) battle. Elvestrom cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win at #1 singles. Austin had a strong showing at #3 singles, taking the match 6-3, 6-2.
Ella De Young earned a 6-1, 7-5 win at #5 singles. The Knights took #4 singles, but De Bruijn closed out the 6-1 team victory for Gustavus by rallying for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-1) marathon win at #2 singles.
Up next for the Gusties is another MIAC home match on Sunday, April 19 starting at 4:30 p.m. against the Macalester College Scots at the Swanson Tennis Center.
