No. 20 Women’s Tennis to Open MIAC Playoffs Thursday Against St. Kate’s in Semifinals

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 20 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team will take on the St. Catherine University Wildcats on Thursday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoff Semifinals.

The Gusties enter the postseason as the No. 1 seed after a 10-0 undefeated season in the MIAC as part of their 27-5 overall record. With their perfect record in the MAIC regular season, Gustavus secured the MIAC Championship for the second year in a row and 32nd time in program history. After going 10-0 in the conference, the Gusties improved their all-time record against MIAC teams in the regular season to 388-18 in program history.
 
Karina Elvestrom leads Gustavus at #1 singles with a 15-6 overall record, going 8-1 in the MIAC this spring. Kaya De Bruijn follows at #2 singles, standing at 18-3 overall and 9-0 in the conference.
 
ST. CATHERINE WILDCATS

The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the conference postseason with a 7-3 MIAC record, going 16-5 overall. St. Kate's advanced to the semifinals after defeating the No. 5 seeded Macalester Scots in the quarterfinals, 4-1. The Wildcats are led by Faith Simon at #1 singles, who has gone 13-7 overall and 6-3 in the conference. Liliana Holmberg follows at #2 singles at 10-11 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
 
In the regular season meeting between the Gusties and Wildcast this season, Gustavus swept St. Kate's 7-0, winning all nine matches.
 
Elvestrom and De Bruijn won the #1 doubles match, sweeping 6-0. Molly Austin and Lanie Davis secured the doubles team point with a 6-3 win at #2 doubles. Ella De Young and Allison Szalay added a 6-1 win at #3 doubles.
 
Davis doubled the lead for the Gusties with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #6 singles. Noor Omar followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #4 singles. Austin took the fourth team point for Gustavus with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #3 singles.
 
Elvestrom won #1 singles 6-0, 6-2. De Young added another point for the Gusties with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #5 singles. De Bruijn completed the team sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 singles.
 
CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY
 
Thursday's two semifinal winners will meet on Saturday, May 2 in the 2026 MIAC Women's Tennis Playoff Championship at the home court of the highest remaining seed. If there is a doubleheader with the same institution hosting both men's and women's championships, the women's match will start at 11:30 a.m.; if not, it will be at 1:00 p.m. The MIAC Playoff champion will receive the playoff championship trophy and the conference's automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament.
