BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Karina Elvestrom of the No. 33 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Elvestrom led the Gusties to win the Midwest Invite Championship last weekend, winning six matches at #1 singles and #1 doubles. Against No. 55 Luther in the quarterfinals, the sophomore swept doubles 6-0 with partner
Kaya De Bruijn and took singles 6-0, 6-1. In the semifinals against No. 34 Hope, Elvestrom won doubles 7-6 (10-5) and singles 6-4, 6-2. The sophomore led Gustavus to a win in the championship match against No. 23 Denison with a 6-1 win at doubles and a 7-5, 6-2 win at singles.
Up next for the Gusties is a pair of road matches on Saturday, April 11 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons at 10:00 a.m. and the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils at 2:30 p.m.
