No. 20 Women’s Tennis Wins 10th MIAC Playoff Championship with 4-0 Sweep of No. 43 Carleton

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 20 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the No. 43 Carleton College Knights on Saturday at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoff Championship.
 
The Gusties won the conference postseason title for the second year in a row and 10th time in program history with a 4-0 sweep of the Knights. With the win, Gustavus improved their overall record to 29-5 this season.
 
Molly Austin and Lanie Davis won the first match of the day with a 6-1 victory at #2 doubles. Ella De Young and Allison Szalay followed with an identical 6-1 win at #3 doubles to secure the first team point of the match for the Gusties.
 
Noor Omar earned the second point of the match for Gustavus with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #4 singles. Austin then won another 6-2, 6-0 victory for the Gusties at #3 singles to bring Gustavus to the doorstep of winning the title. Karina Elvestrom then clinched the MIAC Playoff Championship trophy for the Gusties with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at #1 singles.
 
Up next for Gustavus is the NCAA DIII Championship as they secured the MIAC's automatic bid to the national tournament with their postseason title. The Gusties will find out what their national postseason path will look like on Monday.
