SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team battled the No. 28 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex in the in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship. The Gusties swept the Eagles 4-0 in the Round of 32 to improve to 30-5 overall this season and advance to the Sweet 16.
Ella De Young and
Allison Szalay secured the first win of the day for Gustavus with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles.
Molly Austin and
Lanie Davis followed just a couple minutes later with another 6-1 win for the Gusties to clinch the doubles team point.
Karina Elvestrom and
Kaya De Bruijn had been leading their #1 doubles match 5-3 at the time Gustavus secured the doubles point.
Austin put the Gusties up 2-0 in the match, nearly sweeping #3 singles 6-0, 6-1. Moments later, Davis earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at #6 singles, bringing Gustavus one point away from advancing to the next round. Elvestrom clinched the team victory at #1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win, sending the Gusties to the Sweet 16.
Up next for Gustavus is the third round of the NCAA Tournament against the No. 2 University of Chicago Maroons on Sunday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilkinson Tennis Complex on the Gustavus campus.
