CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Karina Elvestrom and Kaya De Bruijn of the No. 16 nationally ranked Gustavus women's tennis team are headed to Tennessee for the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships this weekend, representing the Gusties as individuals. Elvestrom and De Bruijn are set to compete as a team in the doubles championship and Elvestrom will also compete in the singles bracket.
 
In the singles bracket, Elvestrom is set to take on the No. 16 nationally ranked Lauren Rha of Pomona-Pitzer in the first round. The match will take place at 8:00 a.m. CT on Friday, May 22. The winner will advance to the second round match set for 12:00 p.m. CT on Friday.
 
In the first round of the doubles bracket, the No. 16 nationally ranked duo of Elvestrom and De Bruijn are set to face off against the No. 6 team of Hannah Kassaie and Katalina Wang. The match is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT) this Friday.
 
Elvestrom enters the national tournament 25-8 overall in singles this year, going 7-2 in tournaments and 18-6 in duals at #1 singles. The sophomore won her second-consecutive ITA Midwest Regional Singles Championship this past fall, winning six matches in a row against the other top singles players in the region to take the regional title and earn All-American honors.
 
In doubles, the team of Elvestrom and De Bruijn is 25-4 with a 19-2 record at #1 doubles and a 6-2 record in tournaments. The duo won five consecutive matches against the other top doubles teams in the region this past September to clinch the ITA Midwest Regional Doubles Championship, earning All-American accolades for both. The pair went on to win their first match in the Round of 16 of the ITA Cup in October.
 
If the Gusties win and advance past their matches on Friday, the quarterfinal rounds of singles and doubles will take place on Saturday, May 23. The semifinalists will then compete on Sunday, May 24. The championship matche is set for Monday, May 25.
