SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team hosted the opening day of their annual Fall Invitational on Saturday. Competing with the Gusties at this year's invite are the University of Sioux Falls, Minnesota State University Mankato, St. Catherine University, and the University of Jamestown. On the opening day, the five teams competed in their doubles draws.
 
Karina Elvestrom and Rory Wahlstrand led the Gusties on the opening day of the invite, winning the top doubles draw championship. The duo swept their opening match 6-0, followed with a 6-4 win in the semifinal, and then took down Gurholt and Vasquez of Mankato State in a 7-5 victory of the No. 1 doubles final.
 
Lanie Davis and Ella De Young won the consolation title in the top draw for Gustavus. After dropping their opening match 6-4, the Gustie duo won their consolation semifinal 6-3 and then took the consolation title 6-2 over Simon and King from St. Kate's.
 
In the No. 2 doubles draw, Noor Omar and Maya Brakhage won their bracket's championship. The Gustavus team swept their opening round and semifinal matches 6-0. They then defeated Garcia Chavez and Blanco-Eppie of Mankato State 6-3 to win the No. 2 doubles title.
 
Two Gustavus duos went undefeated on Saturday in the No. 3 doubles round robin draw. Sidney Wright and Katie Thompson earned a 6-4 win in their first round, went on to take their second-round match 6-2, and then closed out their run with a 6-4 victory over Daley and Jorgenson of Jamestown in the third and final round. Evelyn Bryson and Anna Key also had a perfect record in the No. 3 bracket, winning 7-5 in round one, 6-1 in round two, and then taking round three 6-4 over Heath and Haler of Sioux Falls.
 
Up next for Gustavus is the second and final day of their Fall Invite with the seven singles draws set to be played. The matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, September 20.
