SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 15 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus College women's tennis team is hosting and competing in the 2026 ITA DIII Women's Midwest Regional Championships this weekend. In the first day of competition, six Gusties in the singles draw advanced to the Round of 32 and four Gustavus doubles duos have advanced to the Sweet 16.
Singles Draw
Karina Elvestrom, the two-time defending Midwest Regional Singles Champion, had a bye through the opening round and then took down Sophia Cosgrove of St. Scholastica 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 64.
Jemima Vitou defeated Aubrey Wittwer of UW-Eau Claire 6-1, 6-1 and then won her second-round match 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) over Claire Keller of Bethel.
Ella De Young moved to the Round of 64 with a bye and then cruised to a 6-0,6-1 victory over Tanis Lee of Concordia.
Noor Omar moved to the second round with a bye and then took down Mya Nelson of St. Ben's 6-2, 6-4.
Rika Cross breezed through the Round of 128 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alyssa Sommerfeld of Concordia and then defeated Claudia Curtis of UW-Superior 6-3, 6-1 in the Round of 64.
After a first round bye,
Rory Wahlstrand nearly swept Malia McKinnon of Bethel in a 6-1, 6-0 victory to advance to the Round of 32.
Doubles Draw
Elvestrom, who is aiming for a third-consecutive ITA Midwest Regional Doubles title, and Wahlstrand began their doubles run with an 8-4 win over Faith Simon and Ashley King of St. Catherine in the Round of 32 following a first-round bye.
Vitou and
Melat Tabara defeated Alice Tysoe and Aliandra Hagness of Coe 8-7 (7-4) in the first round and then won 8-4 over Michaela Clark and Mac Graves of Cornell to move on to the Sweet 16.
De Young and
Lanie Davis had a bye through the Round of 64 before sweeping Molly Jex and Sarah Wilde of Dubuque 8-0 in the second round.
Omar and
Maya Brakhage won their first round match 8-3 over Marie Pelletier and Lily Holmberg of St. Catherine and then punched their ticket to the Sweet 16 with an 8-2 victory over Mya Nelson and Ellie Huber of St. Ben's in round two.

The Gusties will continue on through the ITA Regional draws on Saturday, September 26 with the singles players opening the day in the Round of 32 and the doubles teams starting in the Sweet 16. The first matches of the day are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
