SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus Adolphus College football team hosted the Concordia College Cobbers for a rainy Saturday afternoon home game this weekend. The Gusties fell 31-9 to the unbeaten Cobbers, though Gustavus did score the first points of the season against a Concordia defense that had pitched shutouts in both of their previous two games to open the fall.
After each team had a short possession to begin the game, the Cobbers put together a seven play, 55-yard drive that resulted in a field goal for the first points of the game and the only points of the opening quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Concordia picked off the Gusties deep in their own territory and returned for a pick six, taking a 10-0 lead. The Cobbers scored again on their next drive, going 41 yards on six plays to take a 17-0 lead.

Liam Frommelt deep down the field for a 44-yard connection on the first play of the third quarter. The Gusties added a 17-yard completion right afterwards to set themselves up on the Concordia 24-yard line. The Cobber's defense held the line, forcing the Gusties to go for a long field goal.
Jack Sieben hit a 46-yarder to put Gustavus on the board, down 17-3.
Concordia responded quickly, going on a six play, 71-yard drive to score and take a 24-3 lead, capped off by a 39-yard touchdown on a screen play. The Cobbers scored once more in the third to take a 31-3 lead into the final quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Gustavus found the end zone as Ginskey finished a 12-play, 72-yard drive with a 16-yard laser to Frommelt for a touchdown, cutting the Cobber's lead to 31-9 with 12:21 to go in the game. The Gustie's were held scoreless the rest of the way as Concordia secured the win.
Ginskey led Gustavus at quarterback, going 15 for 36 with 173 yards and a touchdown. Frommelt brought in six receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Drew Kretlow had 14 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Sieben punted nine times for the Gusties, averaging 33.6 yards per punt.
Up next for Gustavus is a road trip to Northfield on Saturday, October 3 for a 1:00 p.m. game as they take on the St. Olaf College Oles.
