Steve Swansson, a 1980 Gustavus graduate, is a volunteer assistant coach for the Gustavus baseball team.

Swansson was a two-sport athlete as a Gustie, playing as a defensive back on the football team and an All-Conference outfielder on the baseball team. Swansson is the program’s all-time leader in career walks (112), is 10th in runs scored (112), and 11th in stolen bases (25).

Swansson earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 1984 and worked for West Publishing & Thomson Reuters for 35 years. He retired in March of 2019 after serving as Vice President of Compensation & Communication.

Swansson also spent a number of years coaching youth baseball in the Bloomington, Minn. baseball program. He has been a tenured member of the Gustavus baseball staff as a volunteer assistant for several years, witnessing some of the best seasons in recent program history. Swansson and Gustie baseball head coach Brad Baker overlapped for all four of their seasons wearing the Black & Gold, and reunited on the Gustie baseball coaching staff.
