Christian White is in his 16th season as a specialists coach for the Gustavus football program in the 2024-25 academic year.Â
White, who has assisted the Gustavus football program off and on over the past decade, specifically works with the team’s kickers and punters.
He has played a part in helping the Gusties to a number of historic seasons in recent years. Last season, White helped lead the 2023 football team to its first MIAC championship game since 1987, finishing 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. The Gusties, after defeating nationally-ranked No. 7 Saint John's for the first time in 10 years, won the Northwoods Division for the first time since the MIAC's divisional structure was created.
White coached one of the best kickers in program history, Andrew Abegglen, for all five years of his Gustavus football career. Abegglen holds program records for most extra points made in a game (11), most points scored by kicking in a season (73), most field goals made in a season (13), most extra points attempted in a game (11), and most career points made by kicking (213). He was an All-Region selection in 2021 and a two-time All-MIAC kicker.Â
A native of Northfield, Minn., White was a four-year member of the Gustavus football team from 1997-2000. A First-Team All-Conference placekicker in 1999, Christian majored in management and earned his degree in 2001 from Gustavus.
Following his Gustavus career, White began flight school in Orlando, Fla. in June of 2001. He worked as a flight instructor in Atlanta for a year before taking jobs at Mesaba Airlines and Skyway Airlines of Milwaukee. White then served as a captain for Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation, the largest independently held regional airline in the United States. He is now an airline pilot for Delta.Â
White currently resides in Northfield, Minn.
