Gustavus Athletics Director Al Molde and Head Basketball Coach Mark Hanson announced that Cannon Falls, Minnesota native David Flom, a 1995 graduate of Gustavus, would serve as the assistant coach of the Golden Gustie basketball program starting in the 2003-04 season. Flom replaced Mike Boschee, who was named the head men’s basketball coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Flom joined the Gustavus basketball program after serving as the head boys basketball coach at Watertown-Mayer High School for the past three years.

In his playing days at Gustavus, Flom competed on two Mark Hanson coached teams before joining Hanson’s staff as a student assistant coach in his senior season. In addition to playing basketball, Flom was a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team serving as captain his senior year.

Flom was a high school coach for the seven years prior to his hiring at Gustavus. At Watertown-Mayer, he directed his squads to seasonal records of 15-10 in 2000-01, 19-8 in 2001-02 and 17-8 this past year. Prior to serving as the head coach at Watertown-Mayer, he was the assistant coach at Chaska High School from 1996 to 2000.
