Pat Carroll is in his tenth season as an assistant coach for the Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team in the 2024-25 season. The brother of head coach Mike Carroll and fellow assistant coach Steve, Pat brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience with him to the Gustie bench and coaches primarily forwards.
Alongside brother and head coach Mike Carroll, the Gusties have seen extraordinary success on the ice in Pat Carroll's nine seasons, winning six conference regular season titles, four MIAC Playoff Championships, and making six NCAA postseason appearances, including a national championship in 2022-23. Last season, the Gusties collected their fourth consecutive MIAC championship sweep, punching a ticket to the NCAA tourney, where they fell to eventual national champions UW-River Falls in the quarterfinals.Â
Carroll has coached a wealth of talented athletes with the Gusties, helping 12 forwards achieve All-Conference honors 25 times. Carroll has also played a role in the coaching of two All-Americans in Kaitlyn Klein and Hailey Holland. Holland went on to become one of the greatest players in program history, totaling 74 goals and 68 assists for 142 points in 121 games. Carroll has helped the Gusties lead the MIAC offensively and defensively for the last three years, completing a perfect conference championship sweep in the last four full seasons.
Prior to coaching, Carroll was a standout player for Minnesota State University-Mankato, leading his team in scoring in three consecutive years. Carroll graduated in 1985 holding school records for single-season points (88 in 1982-83) and consecutive games with at least one point (25-game point streak in 1982-83). He ranked second all-time at MSU in career goals (123) and career points (224), and earned Titan All-America honors in 1983-84. He graduated holding the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) records for single-season goals (23) and points (49) set in 1982-83, and was a two-time All-NCHA selection. He was inducted into the MSU-Mankato's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001 and was inducted into the Edina High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. He is joined in both halls by brothers Mike Carroll (MSU '13, EHS '12) and Steve Carroll ('95, '05).
Pat and his wife, Lynn, live in Eagan and have two grown children, Mollie '12 and John. Mollie Carroll Zemaitis was a 2012 All-Conference performer and CCM/AHCA West First Team All-American. She had a decorated career for the Gusties, helping the team to four MIAC regular season titles, four conference playoff championships, and four NCAA postseason appearances during her four years, including a trio of trips to the Frozen Four. Zemaitis totaled 35 goals and 47 assists for 82 points in 110 games for the Gusties.
